Scott and Jared are known as aggressive and tireless fighters for their clients’ legal rights. We are very proud of our high quality of representation of injured people in California and are continuously encouraged by the appreciative responses of our very satisfied clients and their families.

We are also very proud of our excellent reputation in the legal and medical communities. Many other attorneys who do not practice injury law refer and entrust their clients to us to handle any injury claim that may arise within the clientele of their respective practices. Likewise, we receive many referrals from physicians who know and respect our work and our integrity. Most importantly, the majority of our clients come to us through referrals from our very satisfied former clients.

We would like you to know that your initial consultation with one of us on any type of injury claim, work injury, or third party liability case, is absolutely free and there is no obligation to hire us. Also, we do not accept money up front from our clients on any of the cases that we handle for them. We are not paid until your case is successfully settled or litigated. We work for you on a percentage contingency fee agreement. No fee is ever owed to us on a claim in which we do not prevail.

We imagine that you have read this far because you or someone close to you, have been injured. We invite you to call us and meet with a lawyer and decide for yourself if we are the lawyers that you are looking for to represent you, lawyers who are compassionate and caring as well as skilled, dedicated, and aggressive on your behalf.

We are dedicated to helping injured workers get well, return to work, and receive fair treatment of their workers’ compensation claims. We look forward to meeting with you and having the opportunity to work with you.

Scott L. Cohen, Esq.

SENIOR PARTNER

Scott was born in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts, moved to New York City, moved to Los Angeles, moved to Chicago and returned to California before age 21. Prior to attending law school, Scott worked a variety of jobs similar to many of those who would one day become his clients. He worked as a machine operator, a warehouse foreman, a delivery truck driver and as a waiter. As the result of living and growing up in various parts of the United States and his varied work experiences, Mr. Cohen developed a keen sense of learning to work with others and of the troubles that arose in the work environment.

He attended California State University Fullerton. He received a Bachelor of Science in Law. In 1981, he began attending Western State University School of Law in Fullerton. He has been practicing law since 1984.

He began his law career as a law clerk and later as an associate in several different law firms. He gained a vast amount of experience in handling personal injury and workers’ compensation cases. He decided that his employers weren’t meeting the needs of their clients. He was determined to start his own office that would meet his goals.

In 1986, he opened his own office. His practice was more of a general nature – handling matters such as injury cases, contracts and business transactions. However, he determined his true passion for the law was in helping working people protect the rights granted to them and in assisting them to obtain the benefits available to redress their injuries and financial losses.

He contacted his law school friend, Robert, in late 1989 to discuss the possibility of joining forces on a different type of law practice. They decided that the time was right and on March 1, 1990, the Law Offices of Cohen & Blitz was created.

Jared M. Cohen, Esq.

SENIOR PARTNER

Jared was born and raised in Orange County. He worked various jobs growing up – a supermarket deli counter, several restaurants, and retail stores. This allowed him to gain valuable hands-on experience and insight into how businesses treat workers, and how workers often struggle with work-related injuries.

He graduated from San Diego State University in 2006 with a B.A. in Political Science. He moved to San Francisco in 2008 and graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law in 2011. He has been practicing law since 2011.

While in law school, Jared interned at Dubrovsky Law in San Francisco and was a judicial intern at the San Francisco Superior Court. After graduating from law school, Jared interned for San Francisco Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, where he researched and reviewed legislation regarding the construction of affordable housing. Jared also served on the San Francisco Bicycle Advisory Committee, trying to help make bicycling safer.

From 2012 through 2020 Jared operated his own law firm, Law Offices of Jared M. Cohen with offices in San Francisco and Orange, focusing on personal injury and workers’ compensation cases. When Robert Blitz retired in 2021, Jared joined Law Offices of Cohen & Blitz.

Robert H. Blitz, Esq.

RETIRED

Robert was born and raised in New Jersey. He worked in various positions growing up – busboy, waiter, restaurant manager, customer service representative and volunteer. Also, he worked in his parent’s retail businesses, allowing him to gain valuable hands-on experience and insight with people.

He graduated from William Paterson University in 1978 with a B.A. in Political Science. He graduated from Montclair State University in 1980 with an M.A. in Social Science. He moved to Southern California in December of 1980 and in 1981, began attending Western State University School of Law in Fullerton. He has been practicing law since 1986.

As a student at Western State University, Robert worked at the library on the graveyard shift a couple of times a week. Also, he began as a law clerk for a personal injury firm based in Santa Ana. He became a certified law clerk after his first year and was able to attend court hearings, prepare and argue law and motion issues and handle arbitration/settlement conferences. He gained a vast amount of experience – things that you need to do to be a successful attorney and things that you would never want to see in a law firm. He decided that there must be a better way to meet the needs of clients.

When he was approached by Scott in 1989, he was open to the idea of a partnership where each person had the same goals. They decided to go forward and the firm began serving clients. The firm began in March 1990. At the end of 2021, Robert retired from Law Offices of Cohen & Blitz.
